Who is a woman of worth? The world has many varying definitions of our worth as women. A successful marriage, motherhood, a daughter that makes her parents proud, outward beauty, a thriving career – these are just some of the ways in which the world places a price tag on who we are. But is this really what our worth boils down to? Is this what gives us value as women?
Last March 23rd, CCF launched our Women 2 Women ministry in Singapore where we came together as a community of women to hear from Sister Deonna and to reflect on what it means to be a Woman of Worth. A woman whose value is not defined by the world, but whose worth is rooted in how God our Creator sees us as His masterpiece.
So, who is this Woman of Worth? Who are we in the eyes of God our Creator?
W – Wonderfully Made: We are created in the image of God “…in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). We are made with intellect, emotions, will, and a purpose, to be God’s image bearer to those around us. We weren’t created hastily but with God’s loving care, “For you created my innermost parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb, I will give thanks to You because I am awesomely and wonderfully made…” (Psalm 139: 13-14). Regardless of our outward frame, the color of our skin, the sharpness of our nose, God designed us with our very own DNA, uniquely made to showcase His character to those around us.
O – Overcomer in Christ: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4: 13). We are overcomers in Christ. Regardless of the storms and waves of life, of the challenges and difficulties that overwhelm us and at times lead us to question whether we have what it takes to get through them; God assures that we are not victims but overcomers. He promises us that there is nothing that can separate us from His love that strengthens us. “What shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or famine or hardship or persecution, or nakedness, or danger or sword? No in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37).
R – Rich in Good Deeds: “Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share” (1 Timothy 6:18). We have hearts that desire to do good. Not because we want to atone for our mistakes and earn our salvation, but because we are so filled with God’s love that we are left with no other choice but to overflow and share this love with those around us.
T – True & Timeless Beauty: We are beautiful not merely outwardly in a way that fades with age, but inwardly in a way that is timeless. An imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit that can only come from a heart that understands God’s love and is rested in Him regardless of our circumstances. “Your adornment must not merely be external – braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:3-4).
H – Heart Wholly for God: God loves us with His whole heart that He asks the same from us. His love was so great that “He gave His Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). He is not satisfied with just 99% of our hearts, so that we may allot that remaining 1% for someone or something else. His desire is for us to give our 100% – to have hearts wholly for Him, hearts that are so filled with His love that we can overflow with the same love to those around us. “For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth, so that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Who is a Woman of Worth? She is immeasurably more valuable than she can ever imagine. For God created her in His very own Image, relational with intellect, emotions, a will & creativity, His masterpiece, His beautiful poem, in different sizes, shapes, colors, and personalities. Intended to be an Overcomer in Christ, courageous, indomitable yet tender and caring. Rich in good deeds, living to make a difference. With timeless beauty in her inner being, of a gentle and quiet spirit by hoping in God, who wanted her heart to be wholly His, for His heart is wholly hers. And though sin has blurred His image of her, in love He gave Jesus, His son, to die for her sins that through faith in Him, she might be again, a beautiful reflection of His radiance, a woman of immeasurable worth! And that Woman is You! (Sister Deonna Tan-Chi).
